2. Stefan Sagmeister. He is doing a book tour for his new book “Things I’ve Learned in My Life So Far” Do yourself a favor and go check him out. He actually made a stop in Virginia Beach and I’m so glad I went, and purchased his interactive book. His approach to life and his projects are inspirational and admirable.

3. Tropicana Pure Premium Not From Concentrate Orange Juice. And none of that pulpy stuff. Gets stuck in my teeth. And I’ll drink the one with added Calcium, but it tastes a little funky, lets not kid ourselves.

5 mo. since graduation. i’ve interviewed. i’ve accepted some rejections. i’ve accepted some freelance. i’ve watched a lot of Oprah. i’ve read a lot of books. i’ve substituted for a lot of high school classes. i’ve done a lot of yoga. i’ve been on a mini-mission to find myself.

i’m sort of confused about what i’m doing. i’m sort of interested in going back to school. i sort of want to start my own business. i sort of want to save hip hop. i sort of want to move to new york. i sort of want to go to the beach.

no i definitely want to go to the beach.

thankful for:

1. grandparents. i was blessed to have all 4 grandparents for most of my life. my granddad coz passed away in 2005. i still have 3 wonderful grandparents left and if i’m lucky my children will have the same experience.

2. daisies. those colorful daises. not just the white ones with the yellow centers. the gerber ones. the beautifully colored ones that i know i want in my wedding bouquet (whenever that day comes)

3. libraries. have i expressed my love for libraries here before? because i love them. i love books, but they are a pain to move. so i love that the library will give me books FOR FREE and trust me to bring them back whenever I’m done with them. libraries trust in people, keep my trust in humanity alive. that’s probably silly. but its true.

Who doesn’t love Kool-Aid? Reebok certainly does. Check out these kicks. Apparently some of my favorite colors are actually Kool-Aid flavors. I should have known.

And this reminds me of my favorite Dane Cook clip from back in the day (which was a Wednesday if you had forgotten). He apparently does not share the love for Kool-Aid.

I just had to make a congratulations card for my mom and I seem to have lost all design knowledge. I’ve got to do something everyday and keep the creative juices flowing. I think my brain has been on hiatus for too long.

Anyways.

I really hope that when we die there is some book or something (perhaps a blog or wiki-type blog) that holds all the answers to all my questions. Not so much “meaning of life questions” but perhaps just tell me who really killed Jon Benet Ramsey. Was there a second shooter on the grassy knoll? Did Barry Bonds really use steroids? These questions bug me and I really wish someone would just tell me the truth about the bloody glove and the 2000 election. Throw me a bone.

While I’ve been home I’ve been subbing at a local high school and I really am sad that I do not have a lot of amusing work stories to share. For now though, my favorite conversation was between 2 English students discussing the hugely popular  Flo-Rida featuring T-Pain ditty “Low” (I’m sure you know it, its on the radio every 5 seconds)

Student 1: Who wears boots with fur to a club?

Student 2: I know! It would be so hot.

Student 1: And jeans?

Student 2: Oh no jeans are fine for the club, but who wears Apple Bottoms?

These are the questions that 16 years old ponder instead of reading Chaucer.

Ok I’ve done this before but I’m bringing it back. Things I’m thankful for. Again, Oprah does this and whatever she does is good for me.

Today I’m thankful for:
1. While driving, people who flash their headlights at you to let you know that you can turn ahead of them, or that you can turn in front of them, or that a police man is hiding around the next curve. Its like the cars are talking to each other.

2. America’s ability to hold elections that do not end in cars exploding and curfews. A peaceful democratic process we all take for granted I’m sure.

3. Jodeci. Really just K-Ci, but I’ll take them all. Forever My Lady, Come and Talk to Me, Feenin’ and their version of Lately! (swoons) And they worked with Tupac.

And finally, Ella shows her support for Michael Vick. If only she knew what a traitor she was to the little pitbull in her.

2008. Happy New Year ya’ll. Back in VB frustrated but catching up on all the seasons of The Wire. I’m hoping this time in VA is limited. NYC is the ultimate goal. I’ll get there, just taking a quick stop first. I had a wonderful Christmas/New Years Break catching up with family and friends and dancing! Now its resolution time and along with the normal exercise more, update the blog more often, etc. I’m going to try to be more proactive. Taking the initiative and getting things done. I find I put off things or procrastinate and I know it just gets me in trouble, so hopefully taking little steps to being more proactive will also help me in my pursuit of timeliness.

I’ve checked out the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and the first thing mentioned is being proactive so I knew I was on the right track with my resolution. Getting a job is scary. Moving is scary. But I’m ready. I want to be in New York by years end. That is the ultimate goal of 2008. What is everyone else planning on?

Today was the funeral for Sean Taylor. The Washington Redskins’ safety who was killed in his home last week. He was only 24 and left behind a 18 mo. old daughter. It is a weird feeling for Redskin fans like my family because it seems like we lost a member of our own family. We have been with the team for years, my father, my grandfather. We are still season ticket holders and to us the Redskins are a part of our extended Washington D.C. family. I’m glad they caught those who are responsible. Jealousy and violence are ugly things and I am sad to see another friend go.

But this tragedy has definitely shown the class and heart of the sports community and the Washington sports community as well. The memorials, the moment of silence, the 21s all mean a lot to us and I’m sure to Sean’s family. Rest in peace Sean Taylor.

ok i’m for real officially done now. wednesday i head to new york for the portfolio review. i have a ton to do to get ready for it. hopefully my procrastination gene will kick in any second now. had a nice weekend with the folks in town. cnn center, zoo and plenty of food. yum.

now my mind is just racing with thoughts of the future. its exciting but scary as hell.
